Eurex Group, owned by Deutsche Börse AG since 2011, comprises six companies with operations in the derivatives business: Eurex Exchange, the International Securities Exchange (ISE), European Energy Exchange (EEX), Eurex Clearing, Eurex Bonds and Eurex Repo.
Eurex Exchange, a futures and options exchange, along with the ISE make up the derivatives arm of Deutsche Börse Group. ISE operates a fully electronic U.S. options exchange, and was acquired by Eurex Group in 2007.
Eurex Exchange is one of the largest global derivatives exchanges, offering trading across a range of products including interest rate derivatives, equity and equity index derivatives, dividend derivatives, volatility index derivatives, exchange-traded product (ETP) derivatives, inflation derivatives, and commodity, weather and property derivatives.
Most trades on Eurex are matched on a price/time priority basis, however, the auction principle is used to determine the opening price of products traded at Eurex and pro rata matching is applied for trades in Money Market Futures. Pro rata matching is applied to ensure access to the inside market for orders of all sizes.
Fees assessed by Eurex vary by product or product group. The exchange provides reduced fees on some products for trades of sufficiently large size. Additional detail regarding fees and volume rebates is available on the Eurex Exchange website.
Eurex Clearing, the largest European central counterparty, is the clearing house for all products traded on Eurex Exchange. Eurex Clearing provides clearing services across multiple asset classes, including over-the-counter (OTC) and exchange-traded products, derivatives, equities, repo, energy, fixed income and agriculture.
Eurex Energy Exchange, majority owned by Eurex Group, operates spot and derivatives markets for energy and related products, including power, natural gas, emissions and coal products.
Eurex Bonds is a multi-lateral trading facility (MTF), or an electronic trading platform off-exchange for wholesale cash trading in fixed income securities and treasury discount papers. Eurex Bonds is the leading platform for German Government Bonds.
Eurex Repo operates an electronic trading platform for the repo and securities lending business.
